I wanted to try split coil wirings on my Warwick with Bartolini PS46C pickups. I detached the black and white wires from the bridge pickup and it went completely silent until I soldered them back. I had no clue that all of the 4 wires had to be connected for the pickup to work. So what should i do to make the pickups work as split coils?
I noticed that the red and white wires from the pickups aren't connected in the control cavity. So how does the pickups work then?

Please don't judge me too harshly since we all are new to wiring pickups at some point.

They should be these according whats written in the back of the pickups: Bartolini XXP26C Bass Pickups - Best Bass Gear
They have 4 wires but are from the 80's so I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the design a little. So anyhow is it possible to wire these pickups as single coils if they're indeed dual coils? Or as in line split coil if they're quad coils?
If the red and white are soldered together they are in series right now. To try single coil use the black (+) and white (-) for bridge coil or red (+) and green (-) for neck coil.
