Hey there,
So, I own a Fender American Jazz Bass Deluxe V, and I've had for about a year now. On this bass, there is a switch that allows you to be in either active or passive mode. I usually set it to passive mode because I like the warmer tone.
Anyway, a couple of days ago I was just practicing when I decided to change my bass to active mode. All of the sudden, it was as if I was playing with a distortion pedal turned all the way up. There was a lot of clipping.
At first, I suspected that I had a faulty wire, so I tried multiple wires. Same result. Then I tried different speakers and amps and I didn't dig into the string quite so hard. Still a huge amount of clipping.
I don't believe it is the battery because, like I said, I got it a year ago and I bought it new directly from fender.
So now, I believe there is some problem with the electronics of the bass. But I don't want to just go digging around in my bass and possibly screw it up more than it already is.
I don't recall banging, damaging, or pushing the bass past its limits in terms of volume in the past.
If anyone out there would be able to give me some suggestions as to what is wrong or if I should bring it to the shop, that would be awesome.
Thanks,
Mjay
