Not sure this is totally a "We've all been there" sentiment, but I feel for the guy. And if you respond to his ad, at least you know what you're in for (he sounds like quite the crusty character, but very upfront and honest).

Bass player looking for drummer/guitar (Ballston Spa)

Been through a lot. Had to sell my gear. Had to start over. Had to deal with listening to tunes and always wondered what could have been. Guess what...? Got my gear back but I'm as rusty as a 45 year old virgin. I play 4 String bass gee tar. My muse is Metallica Gojira and all metal. If anyone wants to jam just because......I'm like Primus. I suck. I would like to have a drummer who doesn't give a flying duck or whatever. Someone who's patent and can get me back to teaching of what I used to be. I can travel. I have my own little marshal amp and my mutilation pedal.
