Disclaimer: I didn’t take before pics. I am sorry.
I picked up this Conrad bass (acoustic b15 included) today from FB Market place for $160.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a bass be in both this good and poor of condition at the same time. The old(er) guy I bought it off of said he’s had it since college, so I assume he’s the original owner. Came with its bridge cover, thumb rest, and the original chipboard case even! (All unpictured, but they’re there along w/ the truss rod cover)
The body, finish, parts, etc are all in pretty decent shape…but the neck had a wicked bow in it. Fretting an F on the E string was nearly an F# due to the height of the string. The ancient bridge cables it was wearing didn’t help. Doesn’t look like it’s had a string change, let alone a set up, in all those years. I’m working on straightening it out now.
The truss rod, luckily, still works and wasn’t maxed out. However, this neck is BEEFY, and I fear it’s pretty set in its ways. I took out all of the slack in the truss rod, and have tightened it as far as I’m comfortable pushing it w/ the resistance that I’m getting. The neck still has a very slight amount of relief (unstrung) though. Going to let it sit a few days and hopefully it will relax/adjust slowly with time.
Either way, it’s a fun project for very little money. I was mostly after the amp, as I need a small practice amp, so figured this is a good deal for the two items.
Wish me luck with this rehab!
