Beatbuddy update 1.85 has the funniest and most awesome feature I've ever seen in a music product - a drunken ass drummer. From the firmware update doc:

Change Log: Firmware 1.85 Sobriety function Control how drunk your BeatBuddy is! One of the things BeatBuddy fans always tell us is that they love how their BeatBuddy never gets drunk (or shows up late, or drinks your beer, the list goes on...), but sometimes it’s kinda fun to jam with a drunk drummer! So we’ve included a Sobriety setting (just press the Drum Set and Tempo knob at the same time to enter Settings - it’s the fourth option down). When Sober, BeatBuddy plays perfectly as always. When Tipsy, BeatBuddy’s had a few beers and starts drifting on the tempo a bit. When Drunk, BeatBuddy has had way too many beers and a few shots and starts drifting on the tempo A LOT as well as throwing in some random fills. When Wasted, BeatBuddy is probably a danger to himself and to others, especially your musical sanity -- he’ll be all over the place tempo wise, throwing in random drum fills, transitioning to other song parts when he’s not supposed to and just banging on the cymbals in the most annoying way. Luckily, unlike your human drummer, BeatBuddy sobers up instantly. Just change his setting :)

I knew my life was missing something. But now I know what it is.

Thank you Beat Buddy!

(Now I have absolutely got to get myself one these. Any company that can put that amount of creativity and fun into a drum machine is bound to have gotten the rest of it right too.)

I own the Beat Buddy Mini, unfortunately doesn't have this capability. But I really like the price point and I just use it for practice away from the studio computer anyway, makes things convenient and portable. Of course, it's got several built-in metronomes, helpful for learning to play reaaaally slooooooowly...

Good to know. Thanks for the heads up. I'm looking at it primarily as a fancy metronome beat box for practice. So I'd be more likely to have just grabbed the mini.

You forgot the "Crashing on your couch mode".

Usually I'll have a couple of "Tall Boys" while I'm practicing so this might be the rhythm section mate I'm looking for.

My music teacher was saying how locking in with a metronome is good for when you're trying to get timing down, but isn't always the right type of practice. He said jamming with others is best because the tempo can tend to change with humans and then lock in. That's when I told him about the Tipsy mode on this thing, now he wants me to send him a link. Haha
