hey there!
i really wanted to know you opinion on this
i love wictor wooten , stanley clarke , steve bailey and those other technique gods , but beside their technique i dont feel like they have lots of " beautiful" songs .i just dont find their melodies that beautiful and i think most of their songs are technique show offs (my opinion , and it doesn't mean im not a fan)
i would be grateful if you could suggest some bass songs with beautiful melodies, like marcus millers blast or jaco's chicken..... thanks!

cant say if you're trolling or serious ! I've been a metal bassist since I started playing, and a huge dream theater fan, but I always had a thing for jazz, and I just wanna find some good enjoyable melodies

why would you think I was tolling? I think diversity as a musician is just about the most important thing you can have. You asked for something with a beautiful melody that isn't a technical master piece that's kinda what that song has but if you want to limit yourself and only play metal like Dream Theater as well as jazz go for it.

At the risk if being called a troll again for simply answering your question, since you mentioned Marcus Miller and jazz try some of the stuff he did with Miles. That's got some very beautiful melodies and fantastic slap work one of my favourites is backyard ritual off the Tutu album but he played lots of very beautiful and melodic stuff on that entire record.

I've always liked Marcus as a sideman on things like Tutu or the old Joe Sample "Spellbound" album. When he does his own stuff, I feel like he gets too repetitive with the slap so I can't listen to it for long.

But to the OP, I think you should really check out Spellbound if you like that Marcus Jazz vibe. If you are into CD's you can probably get it for next to nothing these days. I rediscovered it not long ago in my collection and realized, I need to learn every song on the CD, the basslines are so good.

Yeah he is a great bassist but does tend to get repetitive on his own. Tutu was and still is one of my favourite Miles albums that and bitches brew (of course :-) )
