Gas has hit. I have the becos and have had the original empress. I loved the empress but gas moved me on too. Id love a compressor that's not completely tone magic, nor do I need a sterile tool. I like the idea of having the empress controls and the tone adjustment. But the size of the becos is very appealing.

For those who have had both, which would you choose and why?

Are you sure you mean the Mini and not the Stella? The Stella seems like the better straight comparison, especially to the Empress MkII compressors.

The Becos mini Pro gets pretty close, feature-wise. I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone that's tried both.

I had the Empress many moons ago but I didn't keep it. But I was biased towards the Cali76TX at that time.

I vote Becos, I have been using the mini for the last several months and I stopped looking for compressors.
Some of the parameters are fixed so take that into account if you need fine tuning, but it has been set and forget for me. It's amazing they could fit all these features in such a small package, a perfect fit for the Nano board.

Have both the original empress compressor and the bass compressor, and actually liking the tone from the original, but settled on the bass compressor for the smaller size.

the original sounds smoother, the bass compressor has more high frequency passing through.

Gas is a funny thing, I’m quoting myself to prove it. Sold the Becos last week without a special reason to do so, I just let it go. And now I’m looking for a mkii bass Empress comp, completely sure that it’s the one I need.
