If you look hard, you may be able to find a used MTD Kingston Artist 5 for around $350 USD.

Whenever someone is asking about what bass to get I always try to get more information first, otherwise everyone is just going to suggest their favorite, and that might not be what you want.
What type of music are you playing? Have you played any 5’s before that you liked or disliked?
The more specific you are, the more specific we can be with helping you get something cool
That being said, I think it’s worth it to check out used offerings from Ibanez, Peavey, Yamaha, Sterling, Squier, etc. and also do yourself the immense favor of budgeting for a decent setup if you don’t know how to set up your own instrument. That can make all the difference in the world.
There's a used two-pickup version at Guitar Center in Columbus for $240. Since it's used, you'd have to pay for shipping, but it should still be within your budget.

For $229 you can have this beauty. A Dean Edge 1 five string in natural satin finish. I had mine strung with D'Addario chromes and it served me very well in church for over 1.5 years. It held it's tune very well and I never once, had to adjust the truss rod. Tendonitis and arthritis in my hands and wrists forced me to sell it.
Hated to see it go.
