Sire V7, V7 Vintage, V9, M7, P7, all excellent choices. Ibanez has some good competitive models as well, not sure which ones, I see the TMB650 getting some love on here.

Yamaha BB425X. It was recently discontinued, but there's still inventory out there to be had. Honorable mention to the Fender MIM Standard Jazz V.

I like how theyre installing the tuners offset now on the Mexicans. The straight I'm a row ones always detoured me from them.

I love my Ibanez BTB33, but it's probably not the kind of 5-string you mean. Here are some 1000-dollar options from Ibanez:

• Single-cut: SRSC805 or BTB845SC.
• Fretless: SRF705.
• Fanned: SRFF805.
• 35-inch: BTB845SC or BTB845.
• Semi-hollow: SRH505 or SR30th5.
• Semi-hollow fretless: SRH505F.
• High C: BTB33.
• 33-inch: BTB33.
  
• Plain-old 5-string bass: SR755 OR SR805.

I've also heard good things about the Sires, and I'm looking into them for myself.

I have both versions, and while I prefer the aesthetic of the 4+1 arrangement, they're both great instruments.

Carvin makes some good quality stuff that doesn't hold value too well on the used market. I'd look around for a used carvin 5.

I've not gotten my Sire v7 5 string yet but I think enough of the TB members to have ordered one sight unseen.
Ibanez makes several 5 string basses that are great. I have an old ATK 305 that I love.

This. The G&L L2500 will make you very happy. And the tribute series are nothing to sneeze at. If you're lucky (like I was years ago) you could score a used US model for under a grand. Just gotta have the feelers out, and look everywhere.

Anything but a Sire M7. Don't get that one.... because if I order one I want it to be in stock . Honestly though any Sire will probably blow you away for the price. My V7 is mind staggering for the price and even just for a jazz bass in general.

my Warmoth Deluxe Jazz 5ver ( used parts rebuild ) has about $1,500 worth of parts in it ... i've only got about $800 in it ..!!

i've played bass for 44 yrs ... Warmoth's Deluxe 5 1 3/4 nut neck is the most comfy 5ver neck i've ever played ..!! and there have been very many basses - at a very wide price range ...

That's easy--- do you like P's? Squier P 5---- $300 new. I got one used for $150.

I've also owned a Cort Elrick copy then bought a real Elrick.
The Cort was nice for about 5 bills used.

IIRC, Keisel makes a 5 string bass for ~$750.

I don't own either. All my 5s are Ibanez ATK or Ibanez TMB.

Amen. And I'll add that so far there's no reason to think the new BB435 would be any decline in quality from the BB425x series (or the BB415, which is the generation I have).
