Best complement for a G&L L2K between P and a J?

Both (someone was going to say it).

My choice; the Jazz. The L-2000 gets much closer to the Precision sound than Jazz, in my opinion, and I go for what I need as opposed to more of what I already have.

There is definitely a vibe to the ceramic pups that charts different territory than a P or J bass.
That said, it can come close to both. I agree with Twinjet. Closer to a P bass especially if you back off the pickup volume some.

I thought it was a nice compliment.

But seriously. What do you mean by complementing "between P and a J" exactly? They're pretty uncharacteristic of each other, so you've got a fairly broad range with each of them but nothing similar. Have you played either? What did you get out of them, individually, that you couldn't get out of your G&L?

My choice as well. In fact, I could easily get by with just my M-2500 (similar to the L-2000/2500 basses) and either of my J-basses. I think they're a perfect combination.

You can get the L-2000/2500 basses with a single coil mode, which allows them to move closer to J-bass territory. If I order an L-2500, I'll get this option.

The alnico vs. ceramic doesnt allow the L2k to sound anything like a p or j. That' just my opinion. I have a jazz bass to compare to and I'm in the market for a precision now. So I think, to answered the original posters question.....get the p bass.

Yes, I was going to say this. All mine have the single coil option which takes them much closer to a J sound.

But that said, I will admit that my "other" bass is a fretless J. I also have a fretted Fender Jazz V but seriously it's the fretless J that gets all the "complimentary" work. There are considerable (and wonderful) differences between an L 2k even with single coil mode and a J bass.

Why not one of these ?
