Hi guys, this is my first post here and I've been reading a lot of old threads trying to help me make up my mind; this is mostly about pickups although I'm getting a new bass and have a few problems with my amp.

I currently have a MIM jazz bass with stock pickups, which is pretty heavy and I've never been happy with the tone I get, usually very muddy/noisy, or too trebly for my taste. I play it through my ampeg, which isn't great, but have always found it a bit unsatisfying through any amp. I think I much prefer the general p bass tone and like something nice and low but still clear, cutting through with the treble all the way down.

I've finally got enough money to get a decent american made p bass and have been researching like crazy - because all the shops are closed - and was initially going to go for an American Professional II or American Original 60's p bass. I have shoulder problems though and did see the Aerodyne jazz bass which is meant to be light, has got the p/j setup and looks really nice, so have been thinking about maybe going for that and if needed getting some better pickups (thinking GZR's or Curtis Novak).

Have got flats recently too and really like them, so would probably stick with that on the new bass. Some artists/albums I really like the tone of are Bob Babbitt, Pino Palladino (Voodoo), Bootsy Collins, BADBADNOTGOOD, Donald Dunn and Larry Graham.

If you have any reccomendations for getting a good sound out of the Ampeg that would be appreciated too.

Thanks
