Still mulling over this bizarre turn of events. The last year I've played short scale Jazz basses almost exclusively. I tried a CV 60's Jazz and the thing almost wrecked my fretting hand, so I resolved I would stick with short scale.
Then I try this Squier Vintage Modified Precision Special with a Jazz in the bridge position and I was pretty floored. It sounded exceptional, and played, well, almost perfect. There is a spot here and there where my pinky just misses, but I could adjust if I spent some real time with it.
It has what Fender is calling a "modern C" shape, and that may be why it feels so nice. It also has a 9.5 radius fretboard, and I know the vintage end of radius' is what I'm suited to.
Anyone know what the deal with a "modern C" shape is? How is it different than a vintage shape?
