Bongo kit... git'cher Bongo kit heyahh

Yeah, surprising indeed...
I just wonder if the neck is decent. The routes look clean on the body as well, and the wood is actually correct (regardless of the lack of correct electronics routes)

Who knows...as a fun project for my kid, or heck, even for me with him, it might be worth it.

Finishing that shouldn't be too hard if you use gunstock oil on the neck, then maybe wipe on poly for the body if you want to color it.

Generally the fretwork is left wanting on these kit necks. You can do your own fretwork at home if you get the right tools. Otherwise it might add 100-200 dollars to take it to a luthier.

Some luthiers think this tool is a joke, and not the right way to do it, but lots of others have had success. The key is to get your neck set as STRAIGHT as possible before you do the work. You want zero relief.

I wound up buying all the fret tools a luthier usually has but I havent learned how to use them all yet. I did however successfully take some fret sprout of a bass neck though.

Thanks for this!!!
I have a rudimentary kit for spot recrowns, and the like, but yeah it's the edge sprout I'd be more concerned with...

For that I guess you want a very fine file and to go at it without any masking tape (that's to get the fret edge as close as possible to the wood). The finer the file the better. If its fine enough it will dull the finish a little (if any is present) but it will polish out. It apparently doesn't take off any wood if the file is fine enough.

My file wasn't fine enough when I tackled the sprout so I mucked up one or two spots on the wood around the frets. Thankfully the bass I did it on is already Road Worn.
