Bypassing preamp section of BX500 a common thing?

I was playing around with my Carvin BX500 today and decided to plug directly into the effects return, since I've not been crazy about the parametric EQ. The sound with my EBMM is so much better, by a factor of 10 (subjectively, of course!). So much better I'm contemplating getting a second one to power my other 2x10 and going stereo (likely? Not really...).

Is this a common thing with fellow BX500 owners and anyone else?

Many people, if you can count the folks asking similar questions, feed a pre-amp of one sort or another into the return or power amp in of their amplifiers. If you prefer what comes out when you plug into your return then by all means you should do just that!
