Can anybody tell me more about bassist David Hayes gear/sound on Van Morrisons works?

Long time Van fan and bassist, trying to dive deeper into his sound and mostly a fan of his era of works involving Davis Hayes on bass as they're some of my favourites.

But from what I've tried searching not much can be found on his setup and gear. Checked the usual spots like wiki and equipboard, then on to forums and even his personal website to find little talk of his tone and basses and such - mostly just a few talks discussing his fantastic style and general appreciation for him.

There was mention of an Earthwood acoustic bass but I'm looking more for his electric basses, strings, rigs etc. Google images yields a fuzzy blue image of him playing with Van on a jazz bass, and one of my favourite live shows; 'Van Morrison: live in Montreux 1980' sees David on a bass I can't identify with an almost small classical guitar-style body.
Songs like 'Scandanvia' off 'Beautiful Vision' has him showcasing a pretty growly, buzzy tone too.

Anybody know more?

Much appreciated

Sorry, I just noticed that you already mentioned this concert.

Anyway, I also love the Van Morrison period that he played with him on. I never really payed attention to the bass though. I noticed the electric guitar more on albums like Beautiful Vision.

I just listened to "Scandanavia" again. It's such a strange and haunting song. I wonder what instrument Van even played on it.

Thanks for putting the links in. Van probably played piano on 'Scandanavia' as he is credited for piano parts on albums around that era, definitely on 'Inarticulate Speech' which was his next album I recall.
I only mentioned that track as the choice of tone David's bass has there I found particularly interesting. Such as you say, a haunting, I'd say ethereal track. Yet the bass playing sounds buzzy and twangy like my first (cheap) bass did. But it works for the song! This might be more down to the mixing but still want to know more about his gear, as other tracks his tone is more dynamic and rounded, but always brilliant.
