I have just ordered a new instrument and will be selling another once it's complete. It's a significant custom made bass in the $3k price range and is a little hard to come by used.

Can I list this bass for sale as a "presale"? I thought that might give potential buyers a chance to know the instrument is coming around ahead of time so they can lineup funds. And it would insure the instrument would sell quickly when the new one is complete.

I also thought I might mention the bass being available in the "Club" thread, I don't know if that's poor etiquette.

I'm not a mod, but I looked through the rules and couldn't find anything against it. Personally I think three months out is way too long. I'd keep it to under two weeks. Plus there are really no commitments. If I tell you I'll buy it in three months and then flake out, no recourse. And nobody is going to pay for a bass until you're ready to ship.

If you list it in the sale it wont be available until the new bass ships it should be fine. I however would NOT recommend taking payment until you ready to ship. Anything can happen in 3 months and the buyer would have no recourse through PayPal if you flake on the sale (no offense) due to time elapsed.

there's no explicit rule against it, but as noted there's a whole bunch of caveats - what if delivery takes four months and buyer loses right to paypal recourse etc.
I mean, if you want to take a deposit in advance of $100-$200 to secure interest I don't see a real problem with that.
