Canadian Classifieds (again)

I know there have been some other threads about this but i think its a great idea and a needed section.

1st A lot of American ads don't ship to Canada and sometimes the shipping costs makes a good deal a bad one. Not all Canadians live close enough to the border to have it shipped to a border address and cross over to bring it back

2nd Unlike most of the rest of the international community, We are far away from everyone else, Several large oceans on all sides

3rd Nearly all Canadians, unless they are desperately hunting for something, Wont be interested in items from Russia, Spain etc. Its just too cost prohibitive, unless again you are desperately hunting and willing to get it at all costs. That being said its A LOT of digging through the international section at ons of stuff that simply doesn't apply to us

4th Our dollar has tanked, Most are spending in house now just because the exchange makes it hard to import at a decent price

5th I think the presence of a Canadian Sub-section will encourage more Canadians to use Talkbass as a market, instead of just our local classifieds

I made this post rather than resurrecting an old one because i think it has a lot of merit. IT wouldn't need separate sub sections, it would just need to be stamped "Canada" and we could throw all our maple syrup, Beavers and hockey sticks in the same area

Thanks for your consideration,

Trev

As a Canadian, I wouldn't like it. Let's be honest, the real traffic is the Americans. I would then need to make two posts to offer my item to both Americans and Canadians. I think the current method is sufficient, your location is clearly stated when you post the ad. I also do not think we have enough traffic to warrant our own sub-forum but that is just a "feeling," I don't have any actual numbers.

This is what I'm thinking. Also, Canada has the benefit of being listed in the standard Classifieds rather than the international, so items you sell also get seen by us spend-crazy Americans. As we do not allow double posting of ads, a Canada-only forum would cut the viewership per item down dramatically. It would be a good idea if there was a significant Canadians only selling to Canadians market, but I just haven't seen that.

We could try it, but it would likely not benefit a lot of sellers.

We're making a mountain out of a mole hill......keep the classifieds as they are and just add "Canada" with the item description, that way it can be seen without having to click on the thread....

If someone is searching for something specific, it's going to search across all the classifieds sub forums anyway. And IMHO, if someone is just browsing each sub-forum, they're clearly not pressed for time and probably wouldn't care about an extra mouse click.

I don't see how it could hurt, unless it puts some extra strain on the server for some reason. We have other seldom used sub forums on the site, for instance the DB GTG sub forum has had an entirety of 13 threads in two and a half years.

I'm not Canadian, nor do I really use the classifieds so feel free to ignore me, but I think a secondary filter could be good like the for sale/trade/sold so you could easily find the ads in Canada without reducing the American traffic.
