Can't post to "wonkiness" thread, it logs me out.

Well, it doesn't really, but it acts like I'm logged out - "you must log in or register to post" - but when I click there it tells me "you're already logged in" which is true. But then when I "click HERE to return to forum list" and it looks like I'm logged in again (my userid showing in the upper right corner) the same thing happens when I pull up the "wonkiness" thread - acts like I'm not logged in.

I guess "someone" decided they didn't want me complaining any more about bugs in the software so I'm locked out of such threads?

@turf3 do you have another browser to test from on that same device?
I'm not suggesting you need to abandon Edge, and that is not the end game here, but that'll help us sort out the suggestion from Paul.

well, I'm trying Chrome, which is demonstrably slower and introduces some new "idiosyncracies". I'll see if it makes any difference in having forums show up as current, or logging me out. I will say that after five minutes the typing lag is rather annoying.

All this aside, and of course I know it's always the user's fault, but it does seem that failing to make a website/forum work properly on the default browser of the MOST COMMONLY USED OS IN THE FREAKING UNIVERSE might, just maybe, be perceived by those of us who can still see the emperor's nakedness, as maybe just the TINIEST WEE LITTLE MISTAKE?

GRRRRRRRR my WHOLE FREAKING POST JUST DISAPPEARED.

Chrome seems to work marginally better as to posts that were shown as 16 minutes ago actually being 16 minutes old, not three days old, and I don't seem to be getting logged out. However, the typing delay makes Chrome unusable. Maybe no one under 40 cares, but some of us still know how to type (it's not just all thumbs) and having to wait 6 seconds till what you typed shows up is simply unconscionable.

Honestly, I suppose I could try this browser and that browser, but it does seem that the people who program this stuff might, just might, consider that people using THE MOST COMMON OS IN THE UNIVERSE (M$oft) and its standard browser (Edge) should be prioritized? Nah, what am I thinking?

This whole thing is STILL at Model T level, where every couple hundred miles you've got to blow out the fuel lines and replace two tires.

Well, "24 minutes ago" is still being reported as "2 minutes ago".

you know this whole thing reminds me of electromechanical/vacuum emission controls on automobiles, which led to the very worst two decades of American cars. Until some consumer-grade software company hires above-room-temp programmers to lay out RELIABLE software, we're going to be stuck with "it's all YOUR fault". But the current creeping featureism does not inspire a lot of hope.

I'm not pointing the blame at you buddy, just trying to help get to the bottom of the issue, whatever it is.
By the way, I am 53 so understand the frustration. I'm going to bow out for now and revisit this at a later time when cooler heads can prevail.

Yeah, whatever, I understand that we're all at the mercy of poor design decisions.

Not you, but I can expect soon someone else will chime in to let me know that it's all my fault.

I don't know how "cooler heads" will resolve this issue. And yes, I understand that in a world with all its current problems the failure of an entertainment website to perform properly is of small importance; yet, it does seem that there might be SOMEONE out there with enough integrity to ensure their product works properly. Or at least, to come clean and admit "the suits made us release this even though we told them it didn't work as well as what it replaced."

The challenging part of troubleshooting over the internet is identifying the exact issue, and then that challenge is even more challenging when the issue is not widespread. Not impossible to solve, but when it isn't something affecting all users, then the additional questions come out to pinpoint the exact issue. Along the lines of those questions is the idea to eliminate some variables.
My secular job is in IT, I live in this world and help solve complex problems everyday. All I meant by the cooler heads was if you'd take a break for a minute from the idea someone is blaming you or yelling, we can surely get some additional information to let you know what is wrong and how we can fix it. I'm willing to help, as was the man who owns this website.

Have you tried the alt.talkbass style? If not the style picker is in the page footer. I'd give it a try and see if it's any better?

I haven't seen anyone else report this problem, so apparently it's working on Edge for others. I don't know what the problem is, but it's apparently not an overall Edge problem. The fact that (as far as we know) it's only you experiencing this doesn't mean anyone thinks it's your fault. I've worked in software development and IT for 40+ years; these things happen. I've been the only guy who apparently saw issues; I understand the frustration.
Have you tried clearing cache for this site? If that doesn't help, try clearing cookies as well (for this site). It's possible you cached something while changes were rolling out, meaning you have partly old code/cookies and partly new., Unlikely to have happened with two browsers, but try it with Edge and see, since that seems to be your preferred browser.

FWIW, I use Chrome on Linux and Mac and haven't seen this. I don't have (or want) a Win box and don't use Edge.

I keep getting logged out and I can’t access Off Topic. Safari - iOS 18.
Yep, I had a round of that this morning as well. On one particular thread, everytime I pulled it up, my ID in the upper right would disappear - logged out! but when I went to log in, it told me "you're already logged in, click here" but when I worked my way back to the thread, again I was logged out.

I completely closed mny browser and re-entered and then I was able to operate normally.

As with most bugs that come from "updates", it's just something you'll have to learn the workarounds and kluge-fixes for it. With hundreds of thousands of variants of user, IP address, hardware, browser, etc.,, no one's going to chase down a minor annoyance. Basically when computer utilities collect enough bugs from "updates", people start dropping off and the final decline starts. Till then, we just compensate the best we can.
