Carvin PB5 A GOOD COUNTRY BASS?

Depends on what color you choose.

serious.

I play a PB5 with the bridge J pickup on country gigs (and Top40 gigs). P pickup at 100%, J around 75%. Active Mode, Trebel at 0, Bass at 6, tone at 50%. Works for me. Great thing is I don’t need to mess with Amp EQ to get my tone. It’s all on the bass.

I do think the Carvin pickups are a tad tinny for my taste, but the EQ helps a lot, and they’re just as bad as Fender pickups IMO.

Overall, the PB5 is a fantastic working bass that I’d purchase again. Wish more companies would make a reasonably priced active/passive PJ 5 string. They really work for every gig.

The Carvin PB5 with just the P pickup would be fine for traditional country music. The build quality will equal or in some cases exceed what Fender produces. On the other hand, you can probably find a used Fender P5 for a reasonable price. I paid $800 for one a few months ago. Although Carvin quality is great (I own a 1992 Carvin LB75F that I bought from the factory) the resale value of Carvins is not nearly as stable as Fender, mostly due to the brand name on the headstock.
