Double Bass Carving Plane

Peter Chandler recommends a 28mm plane for carving the plates. Is that a plane that has a 28mm long body or a 28mm wide blade or something else?

Look at the ibex planes at Stew Mac. There is a 90mm body / 28mm blade. The opposite would take forever to do the arching 25mm body / 8mm blade

Are you talking about something to carve concave surfaces? I'd think the radius of the cutting edge would be important.
