Change A,D,G Keep B,E...??

Hey yall!

I play dead rounds for the most part. I like em, they're my perfect balance between flats and rounds (soundwise and walletwise).

I feel like my D string is getting ready to go on me. It's taking more turns on the tuning key to change pitch than normal. Replacing that string alone is not an option, the volume difference with one string would be jarring.

I'd like to replace just the three treble strings maybe and then break it in for double the usual time. What do y'all think? I've never done this before but I think my technique and eq ability are good enough to mix the sound (post breakin) until they match.

Should I give it a go?
Science experiment!?!
Should I go get my fire suit?
