Hi everyone,
I’m excited to finally connect with the bass community here. I’ve been playing bass for a while now, though I started on violin early in life, moved to the piano, and dabbled in a few other instruments—nothing spoke to me as much as the bass did. These days, I’m focused on bass exclusively and will be diving deeper into fretless bass over the next few years. What excites me most about bass is how it shapes what others play. It’s not just about anchoring the groove; it’s about everything you can do in between the notes. I love the control over what’s heard versus what isn’t, the subtleties of muting, and how the bass has this internal energy that makes you feel it physically. There’s something powerful about how bass can make people move in a way I didn’t feel with other instruments. With fretless, especially, every nuance in touch can completely shift the feel of a line, which makes it incredibly expressive.
After stepping away from music for years due to other life challenges, a serious accident made me realize how much I needed musicianship in my life. The journey back into music, especially through the bass, has played a key role in my recovery. It’s become much more than just learning an instrument—it’s part of reconnecting with a passion I thought I had lost.
In the short term, I’m refining my ear, working on music theory, and mastering the fretboard through sheet music over tabs. Long-term, my goal is to move from playing as a hobby to performing in front of others, especially within the Progressive Rock and Prog Metal genre, which I’m pursuing seriously. I’m also looking into getting a Chapman Stick or an NS/Stick as an extension of the bass.
The bass community has always been appealing to me because of how supportive and knowledgeable everyone is. I’m here to learn, especially from those who’ve gone down the fretless path before me, and to get advice on gear and technique. I’m also hoping to build connections with people who geek out over bass as much as I do.
Looking forward to growing as a bassist and being a part of the Talk Bass community!
