Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy a bass AMP COMBO to help me get closer to the tone I need for the PROG ROCK band I'm playing with. I need it to be loud enough to carry through rehearsals and possibly small concerts, and I'm hoping to find something UNDER $400, although I know a fitting choice might be more expensive than that.

Here are some references of sound that I'm trying to get closer to:
(beggining)
(around 4:10)
(around 1:32)
(around 1:19)

I have a 5 strings, 2 pickups Music Man bass guitar, and a VT Bass DI by Tech 21.

THANK YOU so much for your help!

If you're looking new, go to the local shop and try out what they have. I think you will find some 210 combos in your price range. GK or Ampeg will probably have tones that will work for you. Should be loud enough to hang with a band unless you guys are stupid loud. Most combos have an option to add another speaker cab which will make em loud enough for almost any situation.

Of course your dollar will get you more when you buy used. You might find a well used big old heavy 410 and a head for 400 but you'll have to hunt for it and then lug it around...

If your in the US maybe you may want to look at some Carvin MB series combos. Fender Rumble 200 is a great little combo in your price range. Otherwise I would look at used stuff like Ampeg or GK or even Peavey. Peavey combos can be picked up used and crank out a decent sound with lots of volume, plus you can skip your gym workout if you start lugging one of those around!
