Cheap Ukulele basses off Amazon... any experience?

Hi!
I'm looking at ukulele basses and I don't want to spend a fortune. I've seen some on Amazon. Brands like UK Dream and Caramel. Some reviews are nice. Anybody here as experience with those?
I know Rondo Music also has some bass ukes... but the shipping fees to get them up here in Canada are pretty much ruining the deal...

I had both the fretted and fretless ones from Thomann couple of year back.No point in linking to them as they've rosewood boards and as I found out earlier today,Thomann can't ship rosewood to Canada. $50 CAN even if they could.

They're a strange animal to play. Too much attack and strings bounce everywhere, fret too hard and the silicone strings bend giving you a sharp note. Do sound great though :) Have you thought about the DIY route ?

DIY Bass Uke

Or the kit version here

All the hardware and instructions you need to convert your own bass ukulele.

$80 CAN delivered.

I couldn't find a UK Dream Bass Ukulele on Amazon, but the Caramel CUB400 looks really nice. In fact it looks just like this Rondo version which I own Hadean Bass Uke UKB-23 - RondoMusic.com

How much will Amazon charge you to ship the Caramel? If it's not cost prohibitive, I think you'd be doing well with that one.

I just plugged mine in for the heck of it. Lots of fun. The built in tuner is a nice touch, pretty darn accurate. It doesn't do well with aggressive playing and pick playing, but normal finger style playing works great. It is sensitive to the resonance of the hollow body, so you can't bang on the body or it comes through the amp. Otherwise, it sounds a lot like my full scale electric basses strung with flats.

Hi everyone !!!

Hope I could edit the thread title !
I ended up ordering a UK Dream bass uke (model number UB-113) and it was delivered 2 weeks ago all ready (the wait was short - I received it 7 days flat after placing the order on Amazon!). I waited to get the occasion to try it out seriously and to go back to instrument stores to be able to compare it to more expensive u-basses.

In brief, I honestly paid 25% of the price a popular band and got, well, aside from the fact that mine as no truss rod (but I'm not worried... there's not much tension on that neck, considering the scale and the type of strings... but will it last in the long run... only time will tell), pretty much the same thing. Compared to the Kala Rumble, my u-bass as a similar construction (aside from the truss rod thing), equivalent look (not the same wood, but it looks as good... otherwise it's a question of tastes, I personally prefer mine, nice wood grain!), similar acoustic output (mine as more lower mids, the Kala as more higher mids, otherwise... well...) and equivalent (I guess) electronics (mine actually seems to have the same preamp and pickup then the Goldtone micro bass acoustic with a different label... unless it's a pretty good copy, but anyways, the bass sounds pretty good plugged).

Let's be honest, it doesn't sound like my Strunal acoustic upright or my USA G&L electric... but it's a nice little fellow and I don't thing you can go wrong with it if you feel like trying out a bass ukulele.

Oh, and by the way... it cost $128.99 Canadian, which is less then $100 US these days, shipped.

If you want more info, ask your questions. I'll be happy to answer
