Hey Folks,
I've been thinking that we should have a Chicago GTG! I've greatly enjoyed the various GTG's I've attended as it's great fun to hang and shoot the breeze with other area bassists and play each other's instruments. However, it's been years since I've been to one and a while since there was one in Chicago so the time is here!

Date. Sunday April 30th.

Time. Start at 1:30 PM, Begin wrapping up around 6 PM or so.

Activities: Hanging out, Playing each other's gear, Jamming, etc..

Location.
Perkins Center
Lawndale Christian Community Church
3839 W. Ogden
Chicago, IL 60623

Though taking place on church property, this is not a religious event. The GTG is open folks of any faith or no faith. All are welcome!

Food: Dinner around 5 to be ordered from Lou Malnati's which is just down the block.

Cost:
-$10 chip-in if you want dinner. Pizza and Salad.
-There will be the option of putting a couple bucks in a jar to thank the church for the space.

Attendees: Any Talkbass Member or friends of TB members would be welcome. If you have a non-bassist musician friend who is interested, bring them along. I'm considering opening it up to other bass communities if we have capacity, but I'm not sure about that yet. I'd be interested to hear other folks feelings, knowledge or expereince with other Chicago bass groups.

Parking: There are a couple small lots and ALOT of street parking that is generally wide open after 1:00 on Sunday as the Church and it's related ministries take up most of the block on both sides of the street.

Now I'm looking to hear from you all regarding:

-Please RSVP to this thread and PM me with the names of yourself and guests so we will know approximately who and how many to expect. Also note if you're available to bring pop, snacks, gear, and/or help setup/teardown.
-Activity suggestions?
-Special Guests. If you know of a Company Representative who would like to be present to offer a clinic or somesuch, let me know.
-Special gear. We will have access to an additional smaller room or two for jamming. It might be cool to have a drum kit and small PA there. Maybe someone can bring a guitarrist/Drummer, etc?
-Any other suggestions for making a great GTG I'd love to hear them!

Some other information:
-Being that it's on Church property, Alcohol isn't allowed.
-This is not commercial event, but if you've got gear you're looking to unload feel free to make an exchange at the GTG.

Not everyone checks the GTG sub-forum so please spread the word around to any you think might be interested.

Thanks for the input so far folks. Good point about Easter Leurw, I don't think I'll be trying to compete with that.

March is getting busy for me, so at this point I'm leaning towards the 23rd or 30th of April.

If you have anyone you know who might be interested, encourage them to check in and vote. I'll probably be picking a date and confirming with the Church in mid January.

Thanks for the reminder. I was thinking about the GTG today. My schedule looks like it's definitley best for late April. Luckily those are the days that most folks have choosen.

At this point it's down to the 23rd or 30th of April. Please vote over the next week and I'll approach the church again with a proposed date at the end of next week.

At this point...I voted that either of those worked for me, and I don't have things firmed up enough with the secular project to know which would be preferable. I'll see if I can get some answers out of our band meeting on Tuesday and go from there. Thanks @Eilif for getting this coordinated!

The wife would like to attend the March for Science on the weekend of the 22nd, so last week I submitted a request to the church for the 30th with 23rd as a backup date.

I should know by the end if this week if we've been approved and then we'll begin planning in earnest.

And the GTG is a go for April 30th!

I've updated the info and made some requests from you all regarding RSVP'ing and helping out. Please check the first Post.

Also, this is a Bass GTG, but we're all into interesting instruments. I'd be willing to bring my Pedal Steel Guitar if there are some folks who want to try one out. It's not exactly a common instrument around these parts.

Of course I'll also be bringing at least one amp an electric bass or two and my Englehardt doublebass for folks to play with.
