Hi all,

Does anyone know what the non-peavey part number is for the tuners on a Cirrux BXP 4-string? My D-string tuner appears to have broken internally. It looks like the peg is 3/8ths and the mounting hole is 9/16ths. I believe a Gotoh GB7 tuner should fit.

Edit: I noticed the tuner rattling a lot last week and popped it open, finding that the retaining screw was loose. I tightened up and replaced it, and all seemed to be well (I guess not!). That tuner has always been very tight, and when I opened it, I found that there was no nylon washer. In the 7-8 years that I've owned it, I hadn't opened the tuner prior, so it appears that the it didn't come with a washer from the factory.

Interestingly, it looks like the tuners on my bxp have the bushing spin into the tuner rather than cover it, like the GB7s. I've attached a picture - it looks like the tuners are Jin Ho JB-150s (likely the GB7's crappy cousin!)

Thanks!

Interestingly, it appears the tuners on my BXP are JinHo JB-150s, which have slightly different specifications than the GB707, hipshot equivalent, and cheapy clones. The 150 has a 13.6mm diameter at the base rather than 14mm or 9/16, like the GB707 and hipshot models. I'm not sure how much this would've mattered, but it would've been pretty lame to buy a set of hipshots only to find that they don't fit. Coincidentally, I happened to find set of 3 rights and a left on Ebay, where at least one appears to be the 150 I'm looking for (Gold Closed Back Bass Tuners 3+1 Excellent New NR Gotoh Clone | eBay) - the "JINHO" stamping is visible on the lower right tuner.

Peavey wanted ~25 for a new part (presumably the 150), so I figured the Ebay set was worth a shot for under 20.

Here's a link to the 150 if anyone's interested. I think this is the same part as on the BXP, specifically because of the "JINHO" stamping on my tuner. It could be the case that mine is an older model, but some measurements showed that they should be the same. ♪ Jin Ho Instrument Co., Ltd ♪ ※ Guitar Tuning Keys ※

Yes, there is a slight size difference...the imports are narrower. Same holds true when dealing with HipShot USA vs Lic'd. There have been a few threads on the matter. I've gone as far as to wrap vinyl tape as a spacer prior to installation, others have used aluminum tape.

Interesting. My concern was that standard issue Gotoh or Hipshots would be too big for the preexisting hole or wouldn't properly align with the current mounting screw hole. I'm fairly certain the ones I just ordered from Ebay are copies and should do the trick. They do look more polished than mine, though.
I'd prefer open-gear tuners over sealed ones. I think they look much nicer and they're obviously easier to tighten up.

Agreed. The lic'd Hipshot Ultralites would probably work. The USA Hipshots would probably require some minor widening of the holes.

Quick update - I just got the 4-pack of tuners in the mail. The JinHo ones installed without a problem, and fit perfectly. Also in the set I ordered was what appeared to be a genuine GB707, and it definitely was not going to fit without modifications to the instrument. Good thing I didn't order a set!

The color is slightly different than the originals, but not hugely so. I guess peavey must have a special version of the 150 tuner, since JinHo doesn't appear to make champagne gold tuners for the public.

I forgot how different brand-new strings sound :)
