I want to record looking down the strings from the headstock, you know the sort of thing I mean.
What would you recommend I use and how will I achieve the best results?
I want to do it at a gig. I move around a moderate amount, nothing too sudden. We'll be outside, but in a gazebo and it'll be mid-afternoon to about dusk by the time we finish.

Get a GoPro session, which is much smaller than the regular. There are a variety of clips for the headstock or temporary adhesive patches to do it, and this one is something I'm considering with some rubber strips to protect the headstock a bit more. The bigger the clamp, the more your headstock will weigh and dive a bit, which can be annoying depending. It can be fun though, and I enjoyed doing it.

I got a Drift Ghost. You can clamp it on at any angle and spin the front lens to get the orientation you need.

I bought a couple Thieye i60e off Ebay. They are a fraction of the cost of GoPro cameras ($60-$80 each). Video quality is good. Audio distorts from too much stage volume, so you'll need to record audio off the board and edit later.

I used (2) Thieye's for this video that I made of a recent gig. The close-up of the two guitarists, and the show looking across the stage (closest to female singer) were the Thieye cams. The bassis cam was my Nikkon D5200 SLR camera, and the front stage view is from a Panasonic camcorder.
