Coated roundwounds. What are they?

The wrap wire is coated with a thin layer to inhibit corrosion and rust (lack of tone, dead strings, etc). Elixir, though, is the only company that has strings with a coating over the entire string (after it's been wound). All other companies' coated strings are coated before they're wound, so crud can still get trapped between the windings, just not as much as a regular uncoated roundwound, like DR Lo-Riders or something. I only use Elixir, because they last forever, and other coated strings still die fast because of the unprotected gaps between the windings.

Coated strings are actually regular rounds that are coated after they are wound. The whole string is dipped or sprayed with the coating after winding.

Tape wound strings are different. The actual winding itself is nylon tape....not metal.

Does that help?

If this helps, the steel or nickel roundwound string is either wrapped with a coating , pre-wind, or entirely coated afterwards (Elixir). Elixir is like having a tightly-adhered silk glove over the entire string.

I was already thinking of moving on to Elixer's. I'll use this as the force that pushes me over into buying them.
