I bought a Samick Artist with PJ pickups. Not sure exact model orcage. It has Since 1958 on the head which I have not seen on other Samicks. My question is the controls. It appears to have active contro but only on the P pickup. The P volume turns until it cuts volume then clicks again going up in volume until the end right before the click where it cuts. It definitely is louderived on one of the settings after the click so it must be the active. I like the bass and it was short money with a gig bag at 100. I just have never seen active conto like this with on pickup and turning. Looked for a manual. Anybody have any info on this setup.

A picture of your bass would help in better identifying which model and series it is. Is it similar to the one at the beginning of this thread?

- Neck volume, bridge volume, push/pull active/passive tone

With each click by turning it then is low to high volume. One time is passive then active because it is louder. The bridge or J pickup just has a regular volume. Very strange set up with no way to tell if it is active or passive except the sound and strange that the J does not go active.

Does it have a battery? I am confused....
The pickups are most likely passive. If it has a battery, it will likely have an active preamp, which will control both pickups, not just the P. It is likely just activated/deactivated with the P volume knob.
Unless it has been altered, option #3 posted above is your best bet.

No it definitely has a battery. It may have been altered so that the Bridge J pickup is not active. The P neck pickup is. My question is has anybody ever seen a volume control that just turns with no stop. But at the end it clicks into active or passive where the volume goes up. At the end before it clicks it shuts off the P pickup. I have never seen anything like it and I have a few 6 string guitars. All have push pull to change.
I don't think it is broken as it works fine in its own way. Definitely not a push pull. But I think the bass has been modified so that only the bridge pickup goes active. I have been told that if you make the active only work on one pickup you get more volume on the one. Kind of crazy wiring with a circuit board in a plastic bag.

The active pre-amp has several micro-switches on the circuit board.
Would anyone have a schematic or know what they would typically do?
Here is a similar circuit board I found online (from Ibanez GT). The 3 switches are highlighted in red.
btw the 4 pot controls are
1 master volume
2 neck-bridge blend
3 bass
4 treble
