Hi everyone, I've got a Mexican Deluxe (active) Fender Jazz bass. I'm not a big fan of the pickups in here, and I'm considering taking out the active electronics and putting in passive pickups and a taking out the preamp. I understand that in order to do this I would need to replace the control plate. Does anyone have any suggestions for pickups to look for, I play pretty much all styles, so I need something pretty versatile. I'll probably end up plugging the bass into a separate preamp too (my friend's Ampeg DI sounds incredible). Also, what control plate should I buy for the bass?

Converting Active Jazz to Passive Jazz

That bass has passive pickups in it already.
You do not need a new control plate, but you will need to buy new pots.

Ditch the preamp and wire them as Volume Volume Tone that's it. (Implying you know how to solder of course)
I know, but I want to get new pickups as the ones in the bass currently suck. Any suggestions?
Fender CS-60's sound great. I found a completely wired control plate with switchcraft parts online for $35. Do it, you wont be sorry! Sounds like a Jazz should now. I hated the active electronics.
