I have an Ampeg SVT 7 PRO and I run it through an Ampeg SVT 610 HLF. I've gigged with it in clubs, and it sounds wonderful! The other day, I turned it up really loud, just for a second and hit a note. I heard a cracking sound that seemed to come from the Tweeter (Woofers fart). I've since been playing through it at home and it sounds great. Is it possible that this cracking sound was just the vibration of it being turned up and hitting a note really hard? It seems to be fine, as long as I keep volume at reasonable place. Even when I gigged it wasn't as high as I turned it. So again is this like telling the doctor "it hurts when I do this", and him saying " don't do that "?

It could be that the tweeter was being pushed too hard. Since if sounds good at a lower level, avoid pushing it. It is also possible that it was reproducing distortion from the amp. Probably less likely.

If the cab has an attenuator, turn down the tweeter, or cut some high frequencies with some EQ.

If the cab has an off switch on the tweeter turn it off. Crank the amp and listen for a similar distortion from the woofer. That might help you determine if the distortion is amp related.
