crown xti 2002

my situation is the amplifier is no longer providing midbass/ bass at all, I changed amplifiers to discover it was the crown amplifier at fault and not my speaker. the settings on the crown is stereo with no eq or filter the same as I tried on my second amplifier (qsc plx3002)

i’ve gone threw audio architect and couldn’t find any settings enabled, here’s a few images if anyone sees something out of place

Yep that looks like everything is bypass, like I said though there is no indicator for the output EQ block.

I would do the full hard reset.

You may want to try the Crown Band Manager software for the XTi amps, far less bloated than Audio Architect for no more than you need to check.

If you have not in the past and if you get the amp reset you may want to dial up a high pass filter appropriate for your cabinets.

I have rebooted it and yet the issue still continues, i’m simply going to have to bring it in for a tech to look at the actual board itself, if it helps songs sounds like it’s in a warehouse muffled/muddy with no mid bass at all, my cabinet was a jbl mrx 515

Before looking at anything, your tech should MEASURE the amp to identify if there really it a problem.

How are you driving the amp, and what mode are you operating it in? How is it wired into your system?

There are a couple of connections and modes that can cause this symptom.

my reason for believing it’s the amp was initially I believe it was just one of my jbl mrx 515 going bad so I switched them and the issue persisted, I then connected them to the qsc plx 3002 amp and the issue was resolved, throughout that changeover process I used the same speakon cable, xlr to trs to 3.5mm cable so I could simply play samples from my laptop, everything remained constant except for the amps which led me to that conclusion.

Ok, I think I know where you went (very) wrong.

The adapters and the signal you are using with those adapters is what’s creating the issue. The headphone output consists of 2 signals (left and right) mostly in phase). The balanced input of your amp is looking for a balanced signal with the two signals out of phase. When a mostly in phase pair of signals feeds a balanced (differential) input, the resulting signal is mostly nulled out.

A temporary hack that may work acceptably would be to mute either the left or right signal from the laptop. You probably won’t be able to drive the amp to rated power, but ir will be much better than what you have now.

I’m about 99% sure there’s nothing wrong with your amp.

I’m assuming you are not bridging, and that just adds another complication.

okay i understand what you mean, i’m a little confused to as why it didn’t occur with the other amp. nonetheless i’ll be taking ur recommendation i’m gonna use a mono output from my dj board and run it directly to ch1 on the crown amp and see if anything changes, i’ll be sure to provide images too.

It’s possible that the input on the other amp isn’t really balanced but impedance compensated.

Doesn’t matter, this is a known issue within the pro community.

hello again, i’ve switched something’s around
running mono from dj board directly to amp using balanced xlr, then same speakon to speaker from amp. it’s significantly better, the bass has returned i’m gonna do some eq to make it sound how I would please, I also made sure to check both inputs and outputs on the amps and it runs fine. idk how I ran across this situation initially I was at an event using a analog mixer to my dbx driverack px then to the crown amp, nonetheless much appreciated
