Current Fender Made in Japan production

I own a Hybrid 60s jazz and it is an incredible instrument. Neck feels great and is very stable, excellent fret work, fit and finish is top notch too.

a lot of older mij uses basswood whereas this new line is mainly alder bodies to keep things og.
This not entirely true... Some of the FJ basses were basswood, like the Aerodyne series, much of the Boxer series, and some of the entry model P and J basses but most of the basses were not and are not made of basswood.

That said, everyone I know who owns a basswood bass loves it, both the sound and the weight!

I believe he meant OG like Fender USA OG, but I don’t want to speak for him :)

the older MIJ PB62 models were all basswood unless you went with a PB62-US model, slightly less common.
The US suffix is not the only one which implies the use of alder and US made pickups.
See the screenshot attached for confirmation of what I say (JB62-950)

I have newer JD serial Strat, seems better made (or equally as good at the least) than the earlier MIJ stuff I've had/have. Maybe the older fujigen stuff is better but I haven't played any of those recently.

Actually, all the traditional series reissues seem to basswood except for the sen ash on the 70's jazz. The hybrids are all alder/ash I think. If you look at the tuners, if they're using the larger vintage correct plate tuners, it's likely to be alder/ash. The basswood ones all seem to have the smaller plate (like mim standard/player) tuners. This seems to ring true for all eras of Fender Japan basses.
