Curtis Mayfield Tribute (WDR Big Band w/ Will Lee on bass)

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Made my day! Big Curtis and Lucky Scott fan. Will sounds so awesome (no surprise!). Loving his pickstyle work on Superfly--sounds killer.

Yes, his picking on that song stood out to me as well. :)
Yeah, seems like a pretty great example of finessed fretting hand muting--he almost sounds like he's playing flats with a mute there.
His sound is killer throughout the whole concert. I used to have a Sadowsky J--an early Metro. It was a great bass, but I let it go as it eventually sounded a bit too "modern" for what I wanted to do. But Lee's bass here sounds....like a great classic bass sound. Not "active" as I usually associate with those basses. I know his sig axe is capable of a lot of tonal nuance. GAS setting in.....

I didn't watch closely at the beginning of the tune, but I noticed at the end of "Superfly" that Will puts his pick down on top of his amp head, and then pulls a foam mute out from under his strings and sets that on top of the amp as well.
Ahhhh! There you go! Gonna go back and watch that again.
EDIT: interesting, almost looks like something wrapped over/under the strings. You can see after the end of the previous tune, he grabs a pick and sticks it in his mouth while he affixes the mute.
