I got some progress shots of my new Custom Devon Cocobolo 5 string being finished. He has the body and neck almost finished. Going to do the matching Cocobolo headstock laminate next. Still deciding on electronics but leaning Nordstrand DC pickups with Nordie 3 band Preamp and coil taps for each pickup. Will have matching Ebony and Cocobolo wood Knobs and black hardware.

Cocobolo is such a stunning wood. I haven't seen it used often on bass tops, but a friend of mine has a beautiful cut very similar to yours on the back of his classical guitar. It's a bit of a head-scratcher for me, because while the guitar sounds incredible, no one ever really sees the magnificent grain on the back...

I'm afraid to say what that makes me think of :wideyed:

Any veteran TBers remember a flame koa topped bass named J-Lo? Tried googling but couldn't find her...

Devon sent me pics of the bass with mineral spirits on it and it in sunlight to get a better idea what the color will be once Spray finished. The top really pops I think.

Ha! My first thought when I saw the unfinished pic in post #1 was "Man, that cocobolo is really gonna pop when it gets the gloss finish!"

Gorgeous bass, and great build selection. I'm not familiar with Devon, maybe I need to check these basses out.
