I got a card in the mail about D'Addario's Eclipse Cello/Bass Tuner

Eclipse Cello Cello Bass Tuner | Accessories | D'Addario

Anyone used? I use Peterson's clip-on tuner, pretty good for most things but still doesn't like my low E at times. Wondering if the above tuner is better? It's certainly less expensive.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I use this tuner and love it. It has more positional options than the Snark, has a small profile when folded up, and easily registers all the open strings. Haven't used the Petersen's, but it's superior to the Snark in every way. Very durable as well.

I agree. I’ve used this one for about a year and it works as well, if not better, than the Petersen. I like the display and it’s quite accurate across all strings. I don’t think you can beat it for the price.

I have had terrible luck with Snark, to the point that I'm highly skeptical of any clip-on tuner, but I'd be curious to try this one if it's not as tragic as the Snarks. I have owned several Snarks and I find them fragile, not particularly accurate (they register in tune even when my ear and other tuners tell me otherwise) and they don't pick up my bass that well. They pick up my banjos just fine but again, the tuning accuracy isn't there.

I have ordered one of these already - thank to everyone for your input.

FWIW, for guitar, the Peterson clip-on strobe tuner is the only tuner I find I can trust - nothing else comes close for me and I always end up having to tweak the tuning. Such is life with my particular hearing ...

I keep a Sonic Research Turbo tuner on my pedal board and find it a lot more accurate than the Peterson.

The smaller D'addario tuners for guitar are a nice compact form factor and work decent for bass. They are so small that I often pull off the adjustable clip mount and simply superglue it to my bridge.

Tuner and small electronics technology is advancing at such a fast rate that I'm excited for in a few years when you'll be able to buy an ultralightweight thin film tuner that has battery free built in solar charging and is basically an adhesive sticker!

I have never used any tuner more accurate than the Peterson, although I have not tried the one you mention.

I used the new D'A tuner I asked about on a guitar yesterday and it seems OK, but it was a student's guitar. When I try it for myself I'll know better.

Good decision to get one. This is the one I use on my DB’s because it’s the only cheap solution that will actually hear/feel the DB and is pretty accurate. I own 2 and have them clipped to my DB and my EUB bridges making them available to everyone in the groups I play in and I never forget them at home!

I agree, the Peterson clip-on strobe tuner is very, very accurate. I clip it onto the arch of the bridge on both my DB and EUB, and it works equally well on all my BG’s and guitars. If you have problems detecting the low E, use the E octave harmonic (on the “12th fret”).

Hey Jim, that's a Deuce bridge sitting on the top of my Alcoa, looking at it from the fingerboard aspect, with a. Vic's model C on the G wing, the click signa lead going through a foam cushion in the bridge, and most on topic, a D'A Planet Waves guitar clamp tuner on the E wing.

You can also see my bow quiver on the right, with some Pop's velcroed in place into it.

The link reads: "D'Addario ECLIPSE TUNER for cello and bass PW-CT-17CBK".

We do not have PW-CT-17CBK on sale, there are PW-CT-17BK, PW-CT-17RD, PW-CT-17GN, PW-CT-17BU, which differ from the black PW-CT-17BK in body color, but also do not have the letter "C" before indicating the color (perhaps denoting "cello"). Help me understand this, please.

I have absolutely no idea about the various product numbers. This clip-on tuner works a little better than others, and the price is right. If it says it's the "cello/bass" tuner or words to that effect, it's worth a try.

My go-to tuner is still the clip-on Peterson, which now costs $70 here but, for me, is worth every penny.

I received an answer from D, I quote it in full:

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for reaching out! The "C" stands for "Cello. That is just the "Cello" version of the tuner. However, the tuner itself is the same as the version without the "C". The difference is in the packaging. You can get the standard version (PW-CT-17BK) and it will still work on the cello or bass if that is what you are looking for.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you
