Darkglass clean tone

Hello,

I’m buying an amp soon through a local dealer, and he can only get Fender or Darkglass. I’m familiar with Fender stuff and the tone, but sadly I can’t seem to find much in terms of demos on YouTube for Darkglass heads. I’ve heard plenty of demos for overdrive and distortion, but I’m not too interested in that. I know some might be saying that if I don’t want distortion, why consider Darkglass, and that’s fair. But at the same time, I also want to invest in quality too, and frankly I don’t like the way the Fender stuff looks. So all that said, how is the clean tone on a Darkglass amp? What would you compare it to, and would you say it’s versatile, or is it more narrow in focus? Thanks!!!

I wasn’t a fan. I found it pretty bland and average sounding.
I’m also not really a fan of the distortion for what I do, although I do think it sounds great for certain types of music.

Why do you need to buy through a local dealer?

I don’t necessarily HAVE to, but he’s been super cool to me so I’m trying to be cool in return. I’d like to find something I like from what he can get, but if I can’t then I’ll have to go elsewhere.

I also was not a fan of the clean tone from Darkglass. It annoyed me that it always sounded as if it was clipping when it shouldn't be. Also the bass knob worked at lower volume, but as the volume went up the bass knob became worthless.

Almost as if there is a built in HPF that wouldn't allow you to adjust the bass after a certain point. Your sound at 12:00 is what you are going to get regardless of where you position your bass knob above that at higher volume.

IMHO you should get a Darkglass because you like what their distortion does. If you want a clean tone, there are better options out there. YMMV.

Edit: My experience was with the Microtubes 500.
