Darkglass preamps

Hey guys, todays the day, imma go to my local shop and get 1 or possibly 2 darkglass pedals for direct recording/ silent home practice.

Question is which one?
I was thinking vintage ultra v2, or b7k ultra v2
And an alpha omicron in front of either one of the ultras ?

Why you don’t try it at the shop and see what you like the best? instead of us deciding for you.

I’m very fond of the Vintage Deluxe, so I would assume the Vintage Ultra is similarly worth consideration.
Since you ask, I'll follow up...
I had a Vintage Deluxe Limited Edition (early, with 'Era' knob) which I loved.
Sold it as soon as the Ultra appeared, I miss the Era knob although there's plenty of power in the EQ to compensate. The big deal for me was the CabSim. Probably half my stage time is PA-only or heavy PA support.

Doesn't actually the Alpha Omega line lets you dial from Vintage (Alpha) to B3K (Omega) kind of dirt, and everything in between?
"Mod

Selects or mixes between the two distinct distortion circuits: Alpha is punchy, tight with a lot of definition, whereas Omega is simply brutal and raw. On the Darkglass Suite you can assign footswitch control of the Mod to toggle between Alpha and Omega."

Yes there is a blend between the two, but I don't think either of them sound particularly like the B3K. The A/O is its own thing. It's very popular, but it isn't my thing. The A/O series is their best selling pedal if I'm not mistaken though. I do really love the Parallax plug in. There is an insane amount of adjustment that can be achieved with that. The presets all sound really good.

Agree. I have the Omicron and I used it a lot in the rock project. It doesn't fit with what I'm doing now but I' expect I'll always keep it around, because you never know. It's really good at what it does, if that's what you need.

I was thinking in getting an Alpha Omicron to use it on 2-3 songs of the set. I built a B3K clone kit to know if it fitted my needs, but sometimes it's too scooped or "edgie" to what this or that song needs, sometimes its perfect. Having both sides in the same pedal would be very interesting to me.

Suggest you use your ears and take advice of the folks above who have owned multiple DG pedals.
I purchased the B7K Ultra II last summer(?) to get dirt and fairly brutal metal tones not available with my GK amp. It has more than met expectations.
However I was pleased and surprised by the variety of tones available before ever pressing the distortion switch. Despite the metal-heavy marketing DG stuff can do a LOT more across many genres and tone palettes.

As of late, am actually getting most of my dirt and grind from the SA Aftershock into a clean setting on the B7K, with the option to stack various distortions using both- and that fun has just started:thumbsup:
Good luck. You should be able to find one or three Darkglass units to make you happy.

Oh- add a Hyper Luminal(HL) in front of them for more tonal variation and the HL does provide a setting that gives a very good clean boost.

I haven't tried their pres as pres, but I compared their earlier pedals (B3K, B7K, Vintage) and for me it was a no-brainer to go with the Vintage. It does nuanced grit better than any other pedal I've tried.
