Darkglass Super Symmetry Compressor VS Cali76-TX Transformer

Hi everybody!

I am considering upgrading my MXR M87 Bass Compressor for either a Darkglass Super Symmetry Compressor or a Cali76-TX Transformer. However, the Cali is almost double the price tag compared to that of the Darkglass, and I'd love to get your feedback on whether or not it is worth spending that extra for the Cali.
I am running multiple effects besides my compressor - my Darkglass Microtubes B7K is pretty much always on, and in a few weeks time I will recieve a Dingwall Combustion NG-2. I do not doubt that either pedal will be quite the upgrade, but which will be the best?!

What are your experiences?

Cheers

I own the Super Symmetry and love it.
However, I'd put the Cali in a different class.
I say that not to disparage the Super Symmetry, but rather to point out that the Cali-TX is a step above.
Those who have the Cali-TX would definitely say the price is worth it. However, it's about the size of a box of cereal turned sideways.

It is absolutely massive, the original one.
I have noticed that there has come a compact version, but are these really the same product?
If so, I am surprised by the fact that the TX and the CB ranges from 800-1300 DKK to each other. Why would the original version cost that much more? Has some tonality been sacrificed to make it that compact?
Or is it simply because the TX is the original model?

I'd put the Super Symmetry on an equal plane with the Origin Effects Compact Bass. However, the OECB is not on the same level as the Cali-TX.

I've got a Cali 76tx at home and a Compact Bass on my gig board. I don't own a SS but I have liked the time I messed around with one.

Whether the extra price is worth it to you is up to you. For me, it was and so I went that way. I've been really really pleased with the Cali Compact Bass in a gig scenario.

Thanks monsterthomps on, that was definately quite the read.
I compared the SS review to that of the Cali76-TX, and I found that the latter is more praised than that the SS.
Needless to say, I do need to step up from my MXR M87 after having read these two reviews.

That site is great. I've got a SS but only have other experience with the Diamond BCP1. I'm very happy with the SS but I'm probably not the best compressor advice guy.

I own all that you mentioned. The TX is definitely a step above. I would compare it to a good rack mount compressor. The SS and CB are both very good. For ME, the CB tends to be better for active bass and slapping and the SS better for passive. The CB has some magic happening in the mids that gives a great "color" for percussive playing. The SS sounds great in a general setting.

If I had to have 1 it would be the TX

I own a Cali76 TX with Lundahl transformer, a really big s.o.b.

This is a really good sounding device. But - if you want something smaller and still very good, give the Diamond Bass Comp a thought.
I got that one too, and use it very much. It fattens the tone in a nice manner and it is always on in my setup.
I put velcro on top of all my amps just to fasten the "always on-pedals", wireless and tuner to keep them out of harms way...

Thank you all for your great responses!

As I have acquired the necessary funds, and do wish to have the best of the best, I believe the Cali76-TX will be the way to go.
The price tag still seems a bit high coming from an MXR M87, and initially considering the Super Symmetry, but with your feedback I am confident in the Cali76-TX.
The baby is due to come in a week. I can hardly wait!

Cheers!

I had - notice: had the MXR, but sold it. It was like it worked/reacted different from one time to another when connecting the same bass. Sometimes good - sometimes... "ungood". Small and nice: Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor! I got that one too. Check this review:
