Demo videos (suggestions and criticism are welcomed)

I have been wanting to make some demo videos of some of my pedals for quite a long time, but didn't find enough time... until now. This is my fist attempt at demoing, and hopefully it will be useful for somebody. Video quality is not great, but I hope the sound is good enough.

Please, enjoy the demo of the 3 Leaf Audio Octabvre. Any suggestions for the improvement of future videos are most welcomed

I like that.
There is no talking which is a BIG plus!

Having song samples there is a great idea as it demos how the bass sits with other instruments with and without effect engaged. Especially since they are not too similar!
Showing the watcher how the pedal pairs with other commonly used types of effects is also a very good idea.
The writing on screen is big enough and has enough contrast to be easy to read = Good.
Common basses are used, making this video relevant to many players.

The three points of critique for me are:
2) that the song samples are WAY too long.
2) I don't learn how far down the pedal tracks with each kind of bass and
3) how it behaves with sustained notes in various registers.

And again...No talking when there is no need to is a fantastic touch that sets this video apart from quite a few others.

These are really useful, thanks! I just started making a video of the Aguilar Octamizer and I'll definitely take them into account.
I will probably also make a short video of the Octabvre with just the tracking thing.

Music track way too loud. Hard to distinguish through my iPad. Maybe that’s it!?

You mean that the bass was too quiet in the mix? My SO made the same comment when I showed her the video. I was trying to keep it in a similar level than the original track, because I doubt the average Talkbass-Joe/Jane is going to be any louder in the mix of his/her band. But maybe both of you are right and I should mix the bass louder... Thanks for the input!

Your pedal board is pretty cool! I wish I had some of those. I love to goof around with effects but playing live in the church setting it just doesn't call for it. I just use a MXR DI for EQ and that is plenty.
It's a good video. I wouldn't change a thing.
Thanks for not ruining it by talking for 10 minutes and playing for 10 seconds.

I agree with cnltb that the song samples are too long. I got what I needed out of the demo at about the 5 minute mark (I mostly know what to expect from octaves with other effects), which is pretty good. There's videos where I haven't heard a freaking note by 5 minutes so you're killing it there.

I really enjoyed the demo! Sound quality, selection of tunes, etc - Gorillaz and Incubus, a man after my own heart! I also really appreciated the other-pedal interactions. I'm inspired to try FX videos again myself after seeing this format. Very nice.

P.S. I am a bass effects virgin, but I see an octaver in my future - highly interested in hearing the Aguilar as well.

Here is a nice clip from the commander - in - chief of reviews, Mr. Ed Friedland, the bass whisperer. This is nicely done, he has a magnetic personality, and is a tough act to follow. You have the playing part nailed, the video and audio are great, just say a thing or two without being "too wordy" if that is not in your comfort zone.

I was wrong. When I listened thru my computer, which has exterior speakers I can hear your bass real good.
I guess were all critics.
Sorry!

Yep, for bass demos (well, any demo really) good speakers do a lot. And that is even more true in the case of octavers, subharmonic generators and similar effects.

Thanks! I was not using nearly as much stuff when I was playing live. Basically, it was Tuner > Compresor > Fuzz > Distortion > Overdrive. But then I moved to another country, didn't have time (or connections) for bands, and started playing covers at home. Since I wanted to get a tone as close as posible to the originals, I started piling up junk... … … and that's how you end up with the bank account screaming for help!

Octavers are super cool, you'll see! ;)

One thing I noticed when I started to think which songs I could use mine on was that they are more common in modern music than what I thought. A lot of modern pop hits have some kind of supper low frequency thing going on that one can use the octavers to replicate. Plus they are super cool for that jazz/electronica/improv a la Tim Lefebvre and Janek Gwizdala.

BTW, Ed Friedland videos were super cool. I bough my Genz-Benz rig because if him, and haven't regretted a bit ever since :bassist::bassist::bassist:

P.S. I should have the Aguilar Octamizer video ready for the weekend.

Let the Great Rewiring Games begin!! :D

I brought some pedals back to the board (mainly the BugCrusher) to be able to shoot some more demos. However, each of them takes quite some time, and I'm afraid it's going to take a while before I can post any of the full-length videos. That's why I have shoot some quick videos of the next pedals I'm planning to review. Mostly to keep some activity on the channel... :cigar:

I'll post them here as I finished editing.
