What's the difference? I've searched a lot, can't really find much besides that they are both crazy synthy fuzzes. I want to use it for some synth type tones, maybe after an OC2, with modulation, etc. The DIY kits on her site are really enticing, itching to pull the trigger but I just can't decide. I'm sure I'll love either, don't really understand the difference.

Thanks

Okay, maybe there's a better way to put this. I know the Bit is a synthy 8bit kind of thing, and I've seen videos where the Ruiner gets something very similar. Is the ruined a similar style pedal throughout, or is it capable of some more traditional fuzz tones as well?

A lot of her pedals are exactly the same w/ a different input cap value or a different transistor. Many of them sound almost identical as a result. Tagboard should have layouts for several, I'd just suggest building them yourself on veroboard. Most of them can be built for $5-10 or so and make good first projects.

^+1. However, my vague recollection is that the Ruiner is two Dark Boosts (dirty bass boost) in series. So I think it should be able to get less outrageous if you back off the bass's volume. If you're building from a kit I'd recommend adding another pot before the circuit to lower the input volume and increase impedance. IIFC YMMV putting a Devi Ever fuzz after a buffer.

They are totally different in terms of sound. I've owned both and made one of the Legends myself. For bass if you're wanting a loud, punchy fuzz, then the Ruiner is great. If you're wanting splattering sounds and that gated goodness with some crazy attached, the Legend is great.

Or you know, get both and stack them. LOL

Cool. Ruiner might be the way to go for me then, I've never delved into such deep waters of fuzz so I think the Bit might not be as useable for me right now. If the ruiner kit build goes well, I might try doing a Bit build from scratch. Thanks

I had a Ruiner for a while. I remember hearing one years ago and could never find anything else to get close to its sound. So I finally got one and loved it.

The only trouble I had with it, was that it was impossible to control. If you weren't playing, or playing with ghost notes or lots of muting, it gets very unforgiving.

But like I said, nothing it there sounds like it. I did make a demo also:

My issue was Devi stuff never played nice with my active basses, got the bass fuzz ( before after it became the super massive black hole / it went to megalith pedals?) the aenima and the cherry pop. Cherry pop was ok when I blended of with an ls2 but yeah lot of the pedals were uncontrollable with noise and sounded wrong with actives.. Even with volume turned down. Still have cherry pop but never bought another Devi after that doh!

I fell in love with the Ruiner demo where she played a Radiohead song.

This was a few years ago. I couldn't find a Ruiner to buy so I built my own. I ended up changing a resistor or two, can't remember exactly now, but it really made a big difference in the consistency of the sustained notes not sputtering out.

I finally did track down a real Ruiner but liked mine better because it was more even sounding.
If you build your own, breadboard it and tune it to your liking.

It's been several years since I built a pedal so I wish I could be more specific for you...

Hm well I play only passive basses atm, pretty high output for passive basses though. We'll see.
I'll probably build the stock pedal to be safe, if there are things I'd like to change about the pedal I could try my hand at modding it
