Digital scans for custom in ears?

Wondering who has had a digital scan for custom in ears. How was the experience and results for accuracy? I know it's not as common as molds. I'm reluctant to go with the typical impressions procedure because in the past I had an inner ear test and it created a temporary, but very intense dizziness. I know it's not exactly the same procedure but I don't want to revisit the possibility.

I don’t know if this would mitigate the dizziness factor, but you can request that the molds be done one ear at a time. Some people report feeling claustrophobic, or similar sensations when both ears are fully occluded. One at a time seems to help.

Thank you, I can ask if that would be helpful in reducing chances of dizziness.

Both sets of molds I have had done for custom IEM’s were one ear at a time.
Head needs to be angled with bite block, to assure material makes it to the 2nd bend in the ear canal.
Not sure anyone does it differently.
Never had a digital scan.

I've had multiple molds done for custom ear plugs, and twice for IEMs. I think it's been done slightly differently each time. Both of my recent experiences were done with both ears simultaneously. One used a bite block, the other just had me articulating my jaw a few times through the curing process. All of them have worked equally well as far as I can tell.

Do they really do a digital scan of your ear or are they referring to digitally scanning the molds so you can order new stuff without the molds?

I had mine done with no bite block and they turned out just fine, but everyone’s physiology is different so I’d ask about jaw articulation.

I recently (october) went to Ultimate Ears in Irvine, CA for a digital scan. Was super quick, no bite block either. In and out in like 15 min. 10 days later and I have well fitting custom IEMs. I did ask about the bite block, the audiologist insisted it wasn't necessary with the digital scan. This was my first go around with customs so I can't compare this experience to anything else.

I do know I have wildly different sized ear canals from left to right, digital scan seemed to handle the job well as far as making sure both sides fit properly. No issues so far.
