Digitech Ricochet as standard octave up effect for a Royal Blood like setup?

I have a Digitech Ricochet pedal coming with the mail that I intend to use as my go to octave up effect for a Royal Blood like setup, doubling my bass with an octave up signal going through a couple of other effects and then a guitar amp via my Boss LS-2 (active line/effects loop selector), and now I wonder if I made the right choice.

Will the Digitech Ricochet work well for this purpose?

Will it track well enough, have low enough latency and sound good enough pared with a couple of other effects I plan to use in that chain and then a guitar amp?

As I intend to use it it will be an always on effect, except for some parts where I will only run my bass chain, using a mute pedal in front of the Ricochet.

Also maybe I ought to specify that I am not planing to attempt to copy Royal Blood's sound, I just used them as an example to easily explain what my purpose with the octave up effect was.

You will get an octave up and able to do single notes but no power chords. If you wanna do power chords you'll need another octave pedal. Seeing as you have the ricochet I'd say use that to get your perfect 5th up from that and buy a pog or sub n up to do your octave up. So basic setup is bass split one to bass amp and other into pog 100% wet octave up into ricochet set to 5th up on monetary switch with the quickest sweep setting if that's how it works I don't own or tried one just read the manual. After the ricochet into distortion or fuzz works best into a guitar amp tube if possible. Adding chorus and reverb help syrup it up a bit too. Biggest thing is finding a good drive pedal that helps hide the digital poly tone associated with the nature of the beast and get a convincing rhythem guitar tone. Using an eq pedal after the ricochet to cut highs works good to help hide that or even better a good lpf like broughton will tame that as well. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Wouldn't work for what I have in mind then, as I already do lot of harmonies on the bass, the added 5th would clash with that, all I need is an octave up signal.

Also with all the fast notes and harmonies/chords fuzz on the octave up would get muddy, just some moderate overdrive/light distortion.

I already have the sound I have in mind worked out from messing with effects in a DAW on the recorded bass parts and know what effects to use to achieve that, given the guitar effect pedals I have in mind using can cope that.

But thanks for taking time to come with suggestions.

I don't understand why it wouldn't be able to do chords though, I am not doubting your word, I asked after all, but it says it is polyphonic, the polyphonic mode is even named chord mode?

If that is really so seems like I have to send it back and find another solution.

Seems to work for this guy the few times he does strike a whole chord, even if his tone is drenched in distortion, reverb and delay:

The POG is polyphonic (POG=Polyphonic Octave Generator).
It will do full chords just fine.
I run the effect/octave only out to a guitar multi effect to get various guitar/harp/8 string bass/12 string bass/etc. sounds out of it.
It's all I need.

Well, I didn't ask about the EHX POG, I asked about the Digitech Ricochet since I already ordered that one and it's on the way with the mail.

It's in the headline.

I realize it's a little late to ask, but if it can do what I need I really would prefer that.

Also it is cheaper than the POG.

It ought to be polyphonic too, which is why Seanbassplayer's answer confused me.

I have used the Ricochet to do just that. You need an a/b/y pedal to split your signal and then I use the Ricochet to one octave up for that guitar effect. I tracks well and reacts great with chords as well.
If you want to simulate power chords with your "guitar sound" you have to use a pitch shifter to add a 5th to the signal. I use a Behringer US600 just for that. Cheap and works without problems.

Thank you for actually answering my question.

Just the kind of answer I was looking for.

I really just wanted to know if the pedal I already ordered could do what I wanted it to.

Apparently it can, which is a relief.

I don't really need an added 5th, since I already do a lot of chords and double stops, but thanks for the suggestion.

My point was the op wanted a "royal blood" type setup which requires an octave up pedal and a harmony pedal tha does perfect 5th for power chords. That is why I suggested using ricochet for 5th and pog for octave up. The ricochet will work for chords but whatever real chords (not pedal form power chords)played octave up through a guitar amp will come out of the bass amp too. That was my thought and might not sound right or maybe it will depending what your playing but if the bass signal is isolated then playing chords an octave up through the guitar amp will work np. Sorry for confusion but thought he wanted a "rhythem" type sound as op states always on except some fills in bass..

Edit: If youmanually do a power chord on your bass with signal on to bass amp and distorted octave up to guitar amp will sound great as it thickens the bass line as a manual powerchord chord is coming out of the bass amp and guitar amp but if it's more complex chord variants is where I mean it might not sound right/ good.

The Ricochet does not work well to simulate thos power chords because you cannot blend the 5th with the root note, therefore it's better to use the ricochet as your octave up pedal and then use a pitch shifter for that.

Aww ok cool thx. I quickly read through the manual late last night and like I said I never owned or played through one and good to point that out for others reading this post wanting a similar set up. I used a sub n up into pitchfork for a while but now I use a Helix LT.

I also have the TC Sub n Up but I don't like how the octave up sounds alone and it still passes some of the dry signal through mine. With the Ricochet everything works well so far.

It's ok, my comment about unrelated stuff was not aimed at you, but to PhatBasstard who just keeped posting info about the POG, totally unrelated to my original question.

I did get confused about what you meant about not working for chords though.

Especially since I thought I made it clear in my original post that I am not trying to copy Royal Blood's sound and just used them as an example to get people a clue about what kind of basic idea I had in mind, and that I really just wanted to know if the Ricochet would work for adding an upper octave to what I played on bass including chords and harmonies.

I already know what I want and what will work with the compositions I have in mind and it does not include an added upper 5th.

I appreciate the suggestions and the added bonus info though.

It was clear to me you weren't going for royal blood sound/style but thought you wanted a same type signal chain but using it as a rhythm guitar sound but I understand what you want it for now and seems the ricochet will work well for your needs, Cheers

Don't think I had dry bleed but I also used toneprint editor to fine tune my octave up signal to remove the digital artifact associated. I don't have my sub n up anymore to actually see if the dry was bleeding through.

Well it looks like the previous posts (mine and yours) were removed.
Apparently the mod misunderstood as you did.
It wasn't a "threat".
It was to tell you that, since you're new, when you ask about a "choice" for achieving a certain function,
and for some reason, seem to think you have your own little private forum, and want to react to responders
that are trying to give you helpful, pertinent info, with a "you don't belong in my thread" attitude,
the motivation to help you in the future will quickly erode.

FWIW, I could care less if your pedal works, or you buy a POG, or whatever.

Excuse me but I don't find answers basically equivalent to: "Your choice is stupid send it back and buy a POG instead." very helpful, when my question was weather the Ricochet would work for what I had in mind, especially since later replies revealed it in fact would.

It might not be my private forum, still you would think people trying to answer respectfully to the OP's intentions and not least according to the headline of the thread would be preferred.
