Do lower tension strings fit closer to the fretboard than high tension?

It is normal procedure to perform a "setup" (truss rod, bridge saddles, intonation, pickup height, etc.) any time you change to a different brand or gauge of strings. If you don't do the required setup, then you might find the new strings have an adverse effect on your "action" (the distance between the strings and the fretboard).

As a general rule, I find with high-tension strings, I can get a lower action (strings closer to the fretboard). I prefer low-tension strings, which require a higher action but have a softer "feel."

Hi, higher tension strings will increase the forward bow of the neck pushing the strings further away from the fretboard, this can be countered by adjusting the truss rod to take out some of the relief, if you change to lower tension strings the opposite occurs and the neck relief is reduced bringing the strings closer to the fretboard
