Do you browse the classifieds or search for specific gear?

As an occasional buyer and seller of equipment here on Talkbass, I’m curious as to what most people prefer to do when searching for new gear.

Do you normally browse the first couple pages of classifieds, or do you perform searches for specific amps, bases, or whatever? For me, my tastes are somewhat specific, so I usually search on the site or use Google. There is, however, the rare occasion I’ll see something while browsing the classifieds that I will get, but that is usually not the norm.

Specific gear about 95% of the time. I occasionally just browse through a couple of pages and click on interesting stuff - not necessarily with the intent of purchase - but move away quickly.

I just click on the "new posts" link and hope there's topics of interest and NO for sale ads that catch my eye. This dang forum has cost me too much dough in the few months I've been a member.

If I am browsing, I tend to make a game out of it. Generally, it goes something like - I have the first 2 or 3 pages of the classifieds to pick a bass but it would have to be my one and only forever bass.

"Carrots" here. Sometimes I search for specific things (and have bought a few that way), I also browse (which has also resulted in at least one good purchase).

I mostly browse, though I will occasionally search for specific gear. I like to see what's in the local Wisconsin neighborhood sometimes. It probably helps that I can't afford most of what I find.

I do a mix of browsing and searching pretty much every day. Sites: TB Classifieds, Local CL, Music Go Round, Reverb, GC Used, Ebay. I sometimes search for specific items using Google Advanced Search as well.

I browse by category when results can be organized by newest and it's not necessary to scroll through too many pages. For example I browse amps and mics daily on GC used.I browse the Amp and Double Bass section of TB classifieds. This usually requires viewing one page for each category. I usually don't browse the TB Bass (guitar) classifieds, because it involves reviewing too many pages.

With Ebay and Reverb I tend to search for specific things.

Once I see a deal, I have to decide if I actually want the item. Quite often the answer is no. Recently passed on some good deals.

I also search for various bicycle and motorcycle parts...or whatever I am interested in buying.

Just browsing has caused me to buy things I don't need or leaves me justifying hard that I need it. Buying things unplanned takes away from the funds for what I really want and need. Sometimes I mess up. So I allow myself o browse only when I have just paid bills or the bank balance is waiting to be filled by the next pay cycle.
