Double Bass Does anybody know where to find these recordings? Jazz Bass Classics Transcriptions by Hal Leonard

Does anyone else own a copy of this book? It has a number of upright bass transcriptions and for each one the book indicates what album it’s from, i.e. Softly As In A Morning Sunrise - Sonny Rollins, Live at the Village Vanguard. I looked several of these up including Softly and when I find what I assume is the correct recording, I find that the music doesn’t actually match the transcription. I don’t mean that the transcription is of poor quality, I mean that it’s not the same recording that the transcription is based off of.

Has anyone else run into this?

I suspect (but can't confirm) that the Hal Leonard transcription is from the 1958 Blue Note record.

The version on the original record:

You may have pulled up an alternate take that was part of a 1999 reissue:

Turns out the transcription is actually from the alternate take, despite not mentioning that anywhere in the book. That original version where there is talking at the beginning is not the version transcribed which is odd that they wouldn’t mention that. A lot of the songs in this book are like that. Maybe i’ll make another post once I find out the exact versions for each transcription so that this isn’t an issue for other TB users. Thanks for your help!

I have that book- it’s great minus the tab taking up all the space. I find the notes are all a bit too small to read at times
I really dislike the notes and tab policy. It takes two pages to write down a one page piece and it's harder to follow at first glance. Furthermore tabs are early useful especially for advanced books like this one dedicated to laFaro and other masters.

Sorry for the rant and the non constructive comment.
