I was looking at getting one, since Ric no longer makes them. I've looked at a lot of different sites, but wondered if anyone has a recommendation. I did get one recommendation from a TBer who offered to sell me his, but I waited too long :-( and he sold it.

I know that in general you get what you pay for, but I'm trying to see if any of them are decent. I've looked at doublenecksg.com, rareelectricguitar.com, thetopguitars.com, and logicalguitars.com.

Thanks for any advice you'd care to share.

They specialize in making reproductions of famous/iconic guitars (Eric Clapton's 'Fool' SG, Harrison's 'Rocky', etc.). They also make exact reproductions of Rickenbacker guitars and I know I've seen a 4080 copy on their website.

I don't own any of their guitars, but I've been thinking about having them make a full scale (24.75") version of their Ric 325 copy (you can check that out here: rickenbacker325.com) I can't attest to the quality, but their attention to detail seems spot-on, right down to the smallest measurements.

Thanks, I'll add them to the list.

I think I remember reading Logical in Canada would build them, they certainly do some Ric copies.

Thanks. They are on the list and they are really the only company I have a firm recommendation for. They are about $1500. Most of the other ones I've seen are in the $800 - $1000 range. I was hoping to get a recommendation for one of them.

I'll take a 4005 styled doubleneck with a 5 string fretless on top and a 5 string fretted on the bottom, please. :D

Somebody out in Ontario has a Logical double neck Rick but I cannot remember the user's handle. I am probably wrong here but I will take a guess and say it was @CanadaNeal (sorry for the page if I guessed wrong).

You are correct. I've been in touch with him. I almost bought his bass, but waited too long.

Hey TBers!

I’m looking at getting a Ric 4080 copy and I’ve seen some really nice looking ones on various web front end stores, taking the descriptions and pics with a grain of salt.

The ones I’m looking at are about $1000 without options like “neck through,” gotoh tuners and other body woods (the default on the 4080 copy I’m most serious about is maple body with maple doublenecks, which is nice). I’d be willing to go to $1500 for a 4080 copy that was decent and needing only a setup or some other low maintenance work to get playable.

I’ve posted questions about such a copy in another thread and heard of a less than happy experience one user here had with a custom double neck copy and am looking for any other experiences with double neck copies and specifically Ric 4080 copies.

(Interestingly, I’ve seen a couple of sites that offered a variation of the 4080 in a combo Rickenbacker never offered: a 4003 style bass over a more traditional Ric 6 string guitar, which was surprisingly cool, utterly unique and attractive.)

To me a real Ric 4080 is like a Duesenberg to a car collector, but without $8000 or so lying around for such a rara avis, for me to get even a copy (traditional 4080 style or even the modern 4003 style) would be soooooo over the top, so unnecessary, so nuts... just like the prog rock I listen to and play.

Anyone own a 4080 copy or try one out? Not the 4003 or 4001 copies (there’s plenty of info on those), but the doublenecks... anyone?

4080 copies seem very thin on the ground. It might be worth aggregating a bunch of Rickenbacker hardware and then finding a luthier to build you one. 4080s have bolt-on necks, so you could even commission the body only, and use generic paddle-headstock necks from elsewhere.

I had one made
