Drumskin printing problems

Hey all,

Any moonlighting drummers around? Does anyone know how to remove a mic hole protector without damaging the skin?

I got a kick drum skin for my band and want to get it printed. The drum store guy cut and fit the protector saying that it's better to have it fitted first as the width of the print can cause a problem. However the print guy doesn't want to cut around it in case he damages the skin. So now I need to get the thing off. :-(

Cheers guys.

It probably depends on the brand, but there's usually one piece on the front of the head and another piece on the back that snap together. So you probably want to take them apart from the back.

I'm a little confused. What's the protector? There are adhesive rings you stick over the edge of the hole, and that's it. There are other kinds. Or you can buy skins with the hole already in them and some reinforcement already there. I'm lazy, so that's what's on the kit that has a mic hole in the bass drum. I haven't bothered to put any kind of reinforcement grommet or anything in it.

I can't imagine why a printer would want to deal with a raised protector, but the adhesive kinds shouldn't be too much of an issue. Especially if the printer is used to dealing with heads like Aquarian Regulators that have foam damper rings on them. And, I really don't understand what cutting is about. Either the hole is there or it isn't. Why would the printer need to cut the hole.

I'm channeling my inner drummer and being completely dense.
