Early EB1 bass solo with the Collins kids.

Yep..Mr.Guitar...Joe Maphis.
The west coast Hendrix of country. He could shred on anything with strings on it.
He and his wife played here in Bakersfield on the regular. Many of his and Larry's instruments were built here by Semie Mosely, Bill Gruggett, and Gene Moles. I remember seeing some of his guitars hanging on the wall at Gene's shop when I was a kid. Lots of double and triple necks. Beside country, also idolized in hot rod culture and surf!
Coolsville daddy-o! 😎

I don't know if this has been posted before, but this is badass. Larry Collins and Joe Maphis swapping solos, Maphis on the EB1.

I know I posted it a long time ago, plus some of the other videos with Larry and his sister, Lorrie…

The Collins Kids were quite a pair, keep in mind Larry was just a few month younger than Jimmy Page, who had a youthful TV appearance at about the same time. In spite of being on those shows and being on a major label, it just never took off for them. They kept going on into young adulthood…

Lorrie dated Ricky Nelson, and appeared on Ozzie And Harriet. Larry went on to become a songwriter, his most notable tune being the Tanya Tucker/Helen Reddy hit, “Delta Dawn”. Twangmaster Deke Dickerson coaxed them out of retirement about 30 years ago, and brought them to a whole new audience…

Sadly, they’re both gone now.

Maphis, like Jimmy Bryant, was a consumate country shredder of the 50’s/60’s…
