I suspect that I am probably not alone in this, but the Effects Forum has had a substantial effect on my pocketbook in the past while. Reading about banana mastroshkas, deep impacts and such tilted me into the acquisition of a $700 synth box. It's a cool toy that I haven't actually used in about a year, but I'm never gonna give it up and will someday put it to good use on a song or two!
And last week I stumbled onto something called the Effectrode Leveling Amplifier, and the more I read about it here, the more I was convinced that I should start dragging one around to every show... I mean, more portable than a Drawmer 1960, right??
I've been a huge fan of compressors ever since I built the PAIA Infinity+ kit, back in the 70s. I don't really need a comp, as all my amps have very serviceable ones...
BUT a month or two back I was strongly leaning towards ordering an Empress, but when I read about the 'parallel quad-triode' front end in the Effectrode, well... It was game over. I got on the mailing list for the next build, and now there is one on the way. Unlike the synth, this box is destined to be "always on". And hopefully my wallet will recover in due course....
